Understanding Your Dental Benefits

Understanding your dental benefits before you walk through the door puts you in control of your care and your costs. Most patients have questions about what their plan actually covers, whether their dentist is in-network, and what they will owe before they ever sit in the chair.

At All Smiles Dentistry in Lake Stevens, we accept any PPO dental plan, and we are in-network only with Delta Dental. We do not accept HMO plans, including DeltaCare. Here is a look at the insurance plans we work with most often:

We do not accept HMO plans of any kind, including DeltaCare, which is Delta Dental’s HMO product. We also do not accept Humana, Medicaid, any state insurance plan (such as Washington Apple Health), or any DHMO plan. Online bill payment is available through our patient portal, making it easy to take care of your balance from anywhere at any time.

What is the Difference?

Knowing whether your plan is in-network or out-of-network helps you understand what your insurance will pay, what you will owe, and how to get the most out of your benefits before your appointment. Our front desk team can check your plan status ahead of time so you know exactly what to expect before you’re ever billed.

In-Network Benefits

Delta Dental is our only in-network carrier, and we are in-network with Delta Dental across all states. When your plan is contracted with our practice, you benefit from pre-negotiated rates that lower your out-of-pocket costs. We handle the claims process directly with your carrier so you are never left navigating that on your own.

Out-Of-Network Benefits

We accept any PPO dental plan, even if we are not contracted with your specific carrier. Most PPO plans still cover a meaningful portion of treatment costs, though you remain responsible for any difference between our fee and your out-of-network benefit, even if your plan states 100% coverage. We file your claims directly and walk you through any remaining balance.

MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR COVERAGE

Getting the Most Out of Your Dental Benefits

Your dental benefits reset every year, and knowing how to use them wisely can make a real difference in what you pay out of pocket. Here are a few things worth knowing before your next appointment.

Most plans cover preventive care like cleanings and exams at 100%. Using those benefits first protects your annual maximum for any restorative work you may need.

Your plan has a cap on what it will pay each year. If you have treatment coming up, timing it before your maximum resets can help you spread costs across two benefit years.

Most plans cover preventive care at the highest rate, basic restorative care at a lower rate, and major work at the lowest rate. Knowing which tier your treatment falls under helps you plan ahead.

For larger procedures, we can request a pre-authorization from your carrier before treatment begins. This gives you a clear picture of what your plan will cover before any work is done.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

We accept any PPO dental plan. We are in-network only with Delta Dental, which means Delta Dental patients get pre-negotiated in-network rates. If you have a different PPO carrier, such as Cigna, Aetna, or Guardian, we are happy to see you as an out-of-network provider and your PPO benefits still apply. We do not accept HMO plans (including DeltaCare), Humana, Medicaid, or any state insurance plan.

Out-of-network means we are not contracted with your carrier, but your PPO benefits still apply. Your plan will typically cover a percentage of the allowed amount and you are responsible for the remainder. We walk you through that estimate before any treatment begins.

Yes. VA patients must have authorization from the VA before their first appointment. Please contact your VA coordinator to obtain that approval prior to scheduling.
